Game on
"The Kurlan civilization believed that an individual was a community of individuals. Inside us are...many voices, each with its own desires, style and view of the world."
The little voice inside of me that talks when I'm playing Trivial Pursuit is an arrogant, self-aggrandizing schmuck. I hoot, I holler, I call people names, I answer questions that other players get wrong, I make other people roll the dice for me, I argue interpretation if I get a question wrong, demand secondary games if I lose, and it all gets a lot worse when I'm "sipping on gin and juice" while I play. My little personal flaw ties into that competitive urge that the testosterone-laden amongst us have been fighting for centuries, but the only time it really ever comes out for me is when I'm doing something intellectual in a competitive setting. Thank goodness I found debate, a mentally competitive activity at which I don't just beat the ever-living crud out of people to put me in my place. If all I had for that kind of release was trivia games, my ego would be some kind of mecha-beast trampling the tiny wood shanty-towns of those who would dare to challenge me. But there I go again...this is why we are now playing Taboo on Wednesdays instead of Trivial Pursuit. I ruin trivia games like Nathan ruins games in general with his over-insistance on specific rules and hyper-competitive personality. He and I should play some Trivial Pursuit sometime soon.
Let me go on, like a blister in the sun.
