Lincoln, Lincoln, I've been thinkin'
Denise, the super-best girl ever, gave me a fabulous birthday present: Lincoln Logs. I can remember playing with many the log in my wee engineering days. I build houses, barns, and whole towns of wierd, Frank Lloyd Wright style constructions. So imagine my surprise when I open the bag of goodies, proclaiming "44 real wood pieces," only to discover that 34 of the 44 pieces are the little inch-long things with only one indention. That's right, I had a whopping 10 logs with which to build my Tower of Babel. Talk about inflation.
Paige Davis was on the syndicated Jeopardy! tonight, and she proved just what a stunning intellect it takes to watch other people make a show that you are on. The final score says it all: $32,000 to $17,600 to $1,599. She got 7 questions right the whole game, one requiring such in-depth knowledge of important goings-on as the name of the element that sounds like Mickey Mouse's dog. She then missed a daily double, letting us know that she feels that the word "Washington" includes the name of another country. No wonder they make her stuff pillows.
Careful, the following video is big and liberal, kind of like me full of cranberry sauce. I just finished a whole can with a spoon. Thanks, Nolan.
"And so... it really comes down to a very basic choice that we have to make as a civilization: Either: we will learn to bury the animosities of our ethnocentric, militant traditions and come to understand that Earth's survival depends on our collective, unified participation... or we will sustain this cycle of violence and revenge until humanity is returned to the status of primitivity and, Earth reduced to the rubble of antiquity. It's really up to us... It really is... up to us."
